  • Badminton Grommets and Frame Protection: Why Strings Break Early

When a badminton string breaks early, the string is not always the problem. Worn grommets and sharp frame contact points can cut into the string every time the racket is loaded.

Grommets protect the string from the hard edge of the racket frame. When they collapse, crack or shift, the string can rub directly against the frame hole.

Check the 12 o'clock, 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock areas first because they take heavy load. If breaks keep happening near the frame instead of around the sweet spot, inspect the grommets before blaming string durability.

Before restringing, look for sunken grommets, sharp edges and loose tubes. Players who use higher tension or attack often should replace damaged grommets regularly.
